These are incredibly thin and fragile shades. Part of the reason is so they don’t put too much weight on the limited adhesive. Even on hot summer days, I’ve had several fall off. However, considering the price and knowing they’re temporary, I would say they’re a perfect purchase for anyone who just needs something to cover their windows.

I ended up attaching them not directly to the window frame, because I was concerned about some reviews mentioning that they had peeled some of the paint. Instead, I attached them to the adhesive part of a peel-able wall hanger that I felt would be easier to remove once I was done. Again, they actually fell off pretty easily due to the heat. There was no damage to the frame, so if you’re noticing that they’re pulling off the paint, there might be some bonding happening with the surface of the paint or another factor that would probably be resolved by heating them up with a blow dryer before removal.

Ultimately, this is a very simple, rudimentary, and cheap solution for something, and it worked perfectly for my case.

They come with clips that help define a length, but over time especially in humid environments, the shade will stretch and descend.

This is just folded paper with a strip of adhesive. Nothing remarkable. So just set your expectations.

Bottom Line: Did not stick to window frames for more than 24 hours (some much less than that), did not cover anywhere NEAR to the listed length (72″) which is probably attributable to the pleats though should be considered false advertising, and one blind in a box of 6 was less than HALF the length and looks to be a case that material ran out of a machine when fabricating and nobody noticed.

Long version: I have a new home with far too many large windows and no blinds. I needed something cheap and quick while I order real window treatments so my family could change their clothes without putting on an adult exhibition. I needed 30 windows covered and these blinds got good reviews from The Wirecutter so I gave it a go. I bought 5 boxes, cut them to the necessary sizes, and attached to the top of the window frame as directed by included instructions.

Immediately it was clear that my 69″ tall windows would not be effectively covered. Of my grievances with this product, this is the most acceptable. The 72″ in the product description clearly refers to the length of the paper material and not the size of a window it covers. I should have *PERHAPS* done more due diligence here, but I think it’s pretty poor game that the manufacturer doesn’t give you a clue as to how big of a window these blinds cover. So, it sucks, I think it’s not right, but I can maybe see where the mistake was mine and not the maker.

However, one blind in the boxes I ordered was extremely too short, even when pulled entirely flat. This was clearly a mistake by the manufacturer. You can even see how the blind ends halfway through a pleat. Someone forgot to fill the machine and I got odd-end. Should have some better QC there.

But the worst is that the blinds simply wouldn’t stick. I have a new construction house, I don’t know if the brand new paint on the windows made any difference, but of the 30 blinds I have hanging, I think maybe 5 or 6 have stayed up without falling. The rest of the 25+ fall daily, at odd times, and I have to climb up and hang them again (remember, 69″ tall windows, I need a ladder to fix this) only for them to fall again the next day. On the second day of re-hanging, the blinds started to fall and stick to themselves, so now 3 are ruined because the paper tore trying to unstick the folds.

I’m extremely dissatisfied with this product. I don’t know if my experience is unique, but as far as stickiness goes, I had 5 boxes of this stuff and they all exhibited the same falling behavior, so I can’t say it’s just a lemon in my batch.

I will note that I saw reviewers who suggested using a bit of rubbing alcohol on the window before sticking. I have done this in one case recently and it hasn’t fallen again yet, but it’s only just been over 24 hours (a new record). However, this tip about alcohol is not in the instructions and shouldn’t be considered ‘normal’ hanging. Also, I think the reason this works is because the alcohol compromises the paint a bit (the whole upper sill became sticky to the touch after applying the alcohol) so I can’t say this is a good approach if you ever hope to take these paper blinds down.

They are perfect. Made out of high quality paper and look amazing. Filter out light but not entirely. I am not regretting my purchase and that what matters. I would anyday choose these over traditional blinds in future. Long lasting.

Thought I had a picture. But no matter they are a very quick, affordable and pretty aesthetic way to filter like, helps with blackout and UV and temperature cooling. I started using paper shades years ago there’s no damage to the walls or the trim. And as long as you don’t have kids running around tugging on them or crinkling them they last for a long time and look nice. And I bought six packs and 12 packs and you can’t be the cost to quantity ratio. I’ve turned on some friends to these and bought some for my friends and they’re so easy to install. Like it’s a game changer. I do recommend 100% follow the instructions. They’re easy to cut. They’re a thick enough paper that it makes them good. The only problem I’ve ever had is after a while gravitational pull will make some of the corners of the adhesive start to come up so I absolutely recommend adding a little extra tape to keep them secure. A very cost effective way to cover your windows

  5. Amanda Louise

They look nice, for paper shades I cannot complain. The sticky pad is not that great but I already expected that due to other reviews and just know that sticky stuff never works good anyway, I simply screwed it on both sides and it’s perfect. It’s not hard to cut with a good pair of scissors or even a santoku kitchen knife. The clips being heavy is a plus for me because it pulls it down right where I need it and I just kept clipping up a notch until it settled where I wanted it.

  6. RMore

A lot of the reviews for these temp blinds say that the blue doesn’t stay stuck. I haven’t had that problem. First, the blinds were really easy to cut to size. I just used my kitchen butcher knife. No problem at all. I’ve had the temp blinds up for a week now and they haven’t even peeled off a tiny bit. Still strongly stuck where I placed them. Will be using them for about 6 weeks until the permanent blinds are delivered. They give us the privacy we need without breaking the bank. Love ’em!!

  7. Kay

Bought these mostly to keep my neighbors from judging the chaotic state my kitchen counter was in. For essentially $55 I put shades on 7 windows which really isn’t that bad since I suspect they’ll be around for at least a year. They’re nothing special- basically stiff paper folded back and forth with double-sided tape on one side. It’s up to you to decide if that’s worth the price. For me I’m pretty okay with it and it does look good from far away.

Things to note: It is pretty delicate (it’s paper after all) so be careful. So far the tape that came with has held but it’s only been a day so who knows. The measurements are very much “max length” measurements and not what it can comfortably cover- so be prepared to stretch if you need it to go over a long window. (I used a flat of pop cans to keep it down until it stretched out.) For cutting, I just took a box cutter and sawed back and forth and it worked okay. One box did come with creased ends but I was planning to cut an end anyway so it didn’t matter. On further inspection, I stretched one out and honestly I don’t think it would be too bad once spread but again these are very temporary for me.

tl;dr you’re paying (at time of writing) $30 for 6 blinds. Quality isn’t really going to be there but for this I don’t think it’s too bad. Would recommend as a quick and temporary solution.

edit: Been about two weeks and one started to peel away while another fell. Was prepared for this and had already bought double-sided tape ahead of time. My assumption is the adhesive is weak-ish to prevent paint stripping when you do remove it. Still no problems.

Easy to cut to precise size and to hang them up. They look and hang beautifully and provide excellent shade and privacy. Highly recommended.
